HONRĀ 141. Social Uses of Knowledge. 1 Unit.

This is the third seminar in a four-seminar series designed to help students build intellectual and practical bridges between their majors, the rest of their studies, and their lives more broadly. This seminar asks students to examine a complex current international issue in order to break it down into smaller questions that can be studied. We will draw substantially on knowledge and methods students have learned in other classes. The goal is not to solve a problem, but to be aware how different intellectual approaches can help address different aspects of a problem, to see how the methods of creating knowledge can be used in unfamiliar circumstances, to see that the way we organize our intellectual resources to confront ignorance is at least as important as what we already know. Prerequisites: Admission to Honors Program, Junior Standing. (GE2B, HONR)
