HONRĀ 043. Knowledge and Human Values. 1 Unit.

This is the second seminar in a four-seminar series designed to help students build intellectual and practical bridges between their majors, the rest of their studies, and their lives more broadly. This course explores some of the ethical consequences of knowledge, asking about the rights and responsibilities experts acquire in particular fields and about how non-experts should relate to the authority of knowledge. Students will address such fundamental questions as: Is pursuit of knowledge for its own sake justifiable regardless of costs or consequences? Do different kinds of knowledge entail different responsibilities? Are there different standards of right and wrong appropriate to different fields of knowledge? Prerequisites: Admission to Honors Program, Sophomore Standing. (GE2B, HONR)
